"Soar Like a Dragonfly"
a brass quintet
"Soar Like a Dragonfly" is dedicated to my grandmother, Cheryl Dupuy Blalock, who passed away in April of 2020. This piece was designed to represent the time just before she passed and the days prior to her death.
Though she was once in pain, I know now she is soaring as a dragonfly would on a warm summer day.
Whenever I see a dragonfly, I can feel her vibrant spirit watching over me."

"Before the Clock Strikes Twelve"
for solo piano
"Before the Clock Strikes Twelve" was written about the journey of redeeming oneself, overcoming stress and anxiety.
The sound of a clock is a constant reminder of time running out. As the clock ticks more over time, other thoughts and melodies within the mind become heavily confusing.
Throughout the piece, the feeling of serenity and peace of mind is established- but not for long. Just as the feeling of tranquility seems to be found, the sound of bell towers interrupts the calmness within. The battle between tranquility and anxiety is soon followed by the silence within the mind.
A single breath is taken.
One final time will there be an attempt to overthrow the enemy.
In the end, there is a feeling of triumph and accomplishment.
The battle is over. Stress and anxiety have lost.

"The River Dream"
for cello and piano
Living in south Louisiana, the Mississippi River is a huge part of my daily life. "The River Dream" illustrates, for me, the Mississippi River from a new perspective.
There is a murky presence lurking over anyone who goes near the Mighty Mississippi after dusk and before dawn. For kayakers, there are large pieces of scrap metal and sharp rocks. For tugboat captains, there are the dangerous and consuming currents in the water. But for the adventurer, the River is a journey; a dream in the night.
